December 2021

From Our Regional Vice President

As we enter the Holiday Season, we say goodbye to 2021.  During this difficult year we worked through adversity and challenges.  As we close out the year, we remember the friends and family we have lost and all who were affected during this trying time.  I would like to wish everyone a happy and wonderful holiday season and encourage you to rest and recover, as we look forward towards a brighter 2022!

— Richard Gentry

Texas Arbor Day Celebration

SSC Grounds department celebrated Texas Arbor Day with an informative presentation for the staff and students on campus at the Academic Plaza. Grounds personnel including Regional Director of Operations Phillip Zellner, Grounds Manager Mike Teal and Arborist Supervisor JJ Aguilar discussed topics including fertilizer, root pruning, the effects of ball moss and overall care of the trees on campus with students and staff. Grounds held a raffle for two oak seedling trees that were given away to lucky students at the end. After two years of not being able to hold in person events, it was so much fun to be back on campus again. Thank you to the participants of this event.

Sports Fields and Fine Turf

This year on Sept. 23rd Brian was invited to speak to the class again and provide them with guidance in their preparation for making a presentation at the end of the semester. Two groups will be presenting hypothetical plans for managing a collegiate athletic facility and one for Texas A&M West Campus lawn scenario.
